6 reasons to choose eco-friendly delivery

Today, environmental issues are major issues in cities and place last-mile delivery at the heart of concerns. The last mile refers to all the actors and operations set up in the segments of the final distribution chain of goods or services. Vert Chez Vous supports the theme "Cities and Territories of Tomorrow" during the European Sustainable Development Week (30 May to 5 June 2018). We invite you to discover the benefits of eco-friendly delivery.

1-Contribute to the well-being of the inhabitants

Anticipating the cities of tomorrow means preserving the quality of life of city dwellers. The urban population will continue to grow and by 2050, 70% of the world's population will be urban. This means more and more people and more transport in the city centre. This concentration has environmental and social consequences and impacts the comfort and health of individuals. By rethinking our means of transport, we contribute to improving people's well-being.

2-Preserve air quality

Internal combustion vehicles are partly the cause of air pollution due to pollutant emissions (CO2, fine particles). More than nine out of ten people in the world breathe air that is too polluted, leading to diseases such as acute or chronic bronchitis, asthma attacks, allergies and more serious diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Thus, new modes of clean transport are emerging for the last mile. Being the most expensive and the most CO2-intensive, it is becoming more responsible thanks to innovative and environmentally friendly vehicles (electric, hybrid or CNG vehicles, bicycles, three-wheelers, electric scooters).

3-Reduce noise pollution

With the increase in the transport of people and goods, the noise environment is also affected. Too often underestimated, noise pollution has generated a social cost in France of 57 billion euros due to numerous treatments for physical and psychological disorders of people. In order to limit the noise impact, the new clean vehicles emit zero noise by adapting to new means of consumption.

4-Redesign the urban landscape

The demand for logistics and urban delivery is growing. The challenge is to respond to the explosion of e-commerce and therefore to the customer's requirements in terms of responsiveness, quality of service and environmental impact. Several innovations are on the way: the pooling of flows via green delivery, delivery to relay points, lockers and collaborative delivery. They reduce urban travel and accidents.

5-Creating a more responsible society

The city of the future will have to respond to many social, economic and ecological challenges. That is why it needs the support of its people. This awareness of respect for the environment involves customers in particular through the clean delivery of their parcels and for companies, through the inclusion of a CSR (social and environmental responsibility) approach. According to a study by ADN, a quarterly magazine dealing with marketing, sales and innovation, 90% of French people prefer brands that are committed to a CSR policy. This reinforces the positive image they may have of the company and for 67% of them, it would enhance a negative image they may have of a group. For companies, it is a way to acquire new markets, create jobs and make room for innovation.

6-Building the cities of tomorrow

The environmental and social consequences, such as pollution peaks in large cities, have pushed international institutions and governments to act for sustainable development. The development of cities and territories into more innovative and environmentally friendly spaces is one of the major issues. Major cities, such as Germany and Italy, have announced a ban on diesel vehicles in city centres. Paris has set up a series of concrete actions such as pedestrianisation spaces or crit'air stickers to encourage Parisians, individuals and professionals, to use cleaner means of transport by giving up their polluting vehicles.

This is why, since 2011, Vert Chez Vous, an eco-responsible subsidiary of the Labatut Group, specialising in green urban distribution, has focused on efficiency, productivity and respect for the environment with its BtoB and BtoC deliveries in non-polluting vehicles: dedicated or shared delivery, evening or slot delivery, VIP delivery (upstairs and installation), home delivery from stores, and reverse logistics.
